📰 What Happened: Under the new guidance, the FHWA wants EV charging stations at gas stations and other off-highway locations to speed up nationwide rollouts. The new focus on land ownership in particular seeks to simplify the process, but is contentious.

🔍 A Closer Look: The decision follows a jumpstart of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program, which was close to being cancelled. The new guidelines prioritize locations where gas station or retail chains own both land and chargers to simplify the rollout process and encourage faster deployment.

🧠 Why It Matters: Gas stations like Buc-ee’s, Sheetz, and Wawa, which already own strategic locations, are well-positioned to benefit from these changes. But some charging providers, like Tesla, argue land ownership as a funding criteria could limit EV network growth.
