📅 Today's Story: NYC just unveiled Greater Greenways, its first comprehensive greenway expansion plan in over 30 years—mapping out a unified vision to grow and upgrade the city's biking and walking paths across all five boroughs.
📝 Editor's Note: We ran into some issues between the Urbanize API and Beehiiv (our newsletter platform), but we've got it all figured out now. Weekly roundups will start running on Monday mornings again starting next week. For this week, it's today's issue.

📰 What Happened: Spearheaded by NYC DOT, NYC Parks, and the Economic Development Corporation, Greater Greenways includes 100+ current and upcoming greenways across 506 miles of biking and walking paths. It aims to bridge big gaps in NYC’s pedestrian network—especially in the Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island.
🔍 A Closer Look: The plan has 4 main goals: enhance the city’s transportation network, improve public health, boost environmental resilience, and drive economic growth. The plan is structured into “Greenways of Today” (existing) and “Greenways of Tomorrow” (future projects), building on momentum from the recent Harlem River Greenway, and calling for community-first designs that ensure accessibility.
🧠 Why It Matters: With climate change, traffic safety, and livability top of mind, Greater Greenways is a rare moment of citywide alignment. Its focus on equitable investment in underserved areas could reshape how New Yorkers move, connect, and enjoy public space for decades to come.
