ADAPTIVE REUSE

Jamison Converts LA Koreatown Office Tower Into 495 Apartments

The latest office-to-resi conversion is one of several along LA’s Wilshire Blvd.

📰 What Happened: Jamison Services is converting a 20-story office tower at 3550 Wilshire Blvd. into 495 residential units. The project will feature new amenities like a rooftop pool, barbecue area, and penthouse mezzanines, alongside a seismic retrofit, continuing the trend of office-to-residential conversions along the Wilshire corridor.

🔍 A Closer Look: The development, called “Walker,” was designed by Rockefeller Partners Architects and will preserve the building’s iconic mid-century modern architecture while integrating modern design elements like a rooftop deck and communal spaces. Jamison has completed similar projects, such as at 3325 Wilshire Blvd., showing a commitment to adaptive reuse in the area.

🧠 Why It Matters: With a growing need for residential and more office availability, adaptive reuse projects help address LA’s worsening housing shortage. These projects also provide a sustainable model for transforming older office buildings into much-needed housing in high-demand urban areas, potentially nationwide.
