Atlanta Ranked No. 3 City for U.S. Renters in 2025

Entrepreneurial haven, income growth, apartment sizes, and cost of living lend ATL top marks

📰 What Happened: Atlanta earned a top spot in RentCafe’s 2025 “Best Cities for Renters” report, landing at third place among 150 major U.S. cities. Atlanta’s strong economy, relatively low cost of living, large apartment sizes, and vibrant entrepreneurial scene helped it surpass 148 other cities, despite a slight dip from last year's No. 2 ranking.

🔍 A Closer Look: The report highlighted Atlanta’s 44% growth in renter income over the last five years, one of the highest rates among mid-sized U.S. cities. The city also boasts large apartments (968 square feet on average), a high percentage (70%) of quality units, and a cost of living 4% below the national average. With nearly 475 business applications per 10,000 residents, the city’s popularity hasn’t yet peaked.

🧠 Why It Matters: Atlanta’s rare, winning combination of affordable living, high-quality apartments, and ample business opportunities creates an attractive environment for American renters choosing to put off homeownership until the right time. The city’s growing local economy and vibrant urban culture make it a standout choice for renters seeking to settle in a thriving and fast-growing city.

The Southeast dominated the top rankings for best cities in 2025, according to RentCafe.
